Cherry Blossoms

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Washington, DC during cherry blossom season.  What a scenic place to take pictures! While I had fun with my new, ultra-wide lens, one of the best pictures of the day came from my smartphone.  Can you guess which one that is?  Here are some of my favorite images of that day around the Tidal Basin ...

Signs of Spring

Its been a slow winter for the hobby.  But our annual visit to the flower gives me a reason to break out the camera!  Always a target-rich environment, I  find many items to shoot.  The interesting challenge is the artificial light.  I find the flash difficult to manage and tend to overexpose with it a bit.  Oh well, more practice I guess!  Here are some of my keepers from the show.  Spring arrives in a few days....

A snowy Saturday in the neighborhood!  Great day to try a few things... like shooting in bad weather.  Need some more practice managing the dull exposure and bokeh!

Suddenly it's Fall Everywhere!

I live in a beautiful place....    While it's not especially cool yet, the trees have really started to turn and there are pumpkins everywhere!  It seems that overnight autumn has taken hold.  I'm sure it did not look like this last weekend... we were just at the beach!

Well, here is my first post of the new season.  I was very intrigued with the farm stand we came upon today and it's very massive and bold pumpkin display.  I'll be going back in a week or two once the leaves pop with more color.

Here are my favorites...

Key West

The Florida Keys were in the news this week as TS Isaac passed through on its way to the Gulf.  Seeing this reminded me of a wonderful trip Christina and I took to Miami and the Keys in 2010.  I took over 100 pictures that week!  Here are some of my favorites....

Chasing Waterfalls

Here are some shots from my first attempt to shot waterfalls.  I was going for that real smooth effect on the water that comes from using a very slow shutter speed.   I was excited to see that I could actually take a picture like this, but I learned fast that to make them really good, next time I would have to use a tripod!   I also purchased a nuetral density filter which looks like a sunglass for the camera.  I will help me reduce the amount of light in the exposure so I can slow the shutter down even more.  I'm excited to give this another try come fall!

These pictures were taken at Bushkill Falls in Pennsylvania.

Cut Flowers

One of my favorite subjects this time of year are flowers.  While Christina's garden offers plenty of great subjects right outside the door, some of the most interesting and unusual subjects I find at a roadside stand near our home.  I look for unusual shapes, bright colors and dense compositions.

A trip to the stand never disappoints!  I always get some great shots (here are some of my favorites so far) and Christina always brings home a spectacular bouquet!

Email me for the location of this great flower stand...
