Longwood Gardens

We finally got the chance for a holiday visit to Longwood Gardens near Kennett Square in southeastern Pennsylvania.  The holiday light show and decorations attract visitors from around the world each year.

From their website...
"Longwood Gardens is the living legacy of Pierre S. du Pont, inspiring people through excellence in garden design, horticulture, education, and the arts."

Needless to say, there are endless opportunities to photograph the landscape, flowers and plants, lights and decorations.  I had a chance to experiment with my new camera ( a nikon d7200) and test my low light skills.  All of the pictures are hand held, so they are not as sharp as they could have been had I dragged along the tripod.  Still, it was a great night out with my wife and cousins, and, I managed to get a couple of good shots to share with you!

I hope you like them...

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes to all in 2017

Experiments

We had some beautiful late summer / early fall sunrises and evenings on the beach this year.  Instead of posting cliché sunrise / sunset pictures, I thought I would put up some different treatments of them I've been experimenting with...   those and a couple of star shots over the beach from my flirtations with night sky photography.  I'm still learning, but I thought these were kind of cool-- I hope you do too.

Late Fall Color

I found some interesting colors and textures on a recent late fall walk through the park.  It gave me an excuse to take some photos and write a long overdue post. Soon, I'm afraid, things will be cold and gray...

 Interesting treatment I think..

I notice that this is just my third post of the year... I've got plenty of material, time to up my blogging game!

Around the Garden this Morning

Heavy rains overnight left the yard pretty saturated.  Not especially unique, but here are some isolated flower head shots.  Finally getting lots of color in the garden!

Winter Escape

Christina and I had the chance to get out of winter for a couple of days and travel to the Dominican Republic.   We stayed at a very nice little resort in Punta Cana in the town of Cortecito.  The area is best known for its long stretches of white sandy beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters.

For this trip, I brought my Sony mirrorless camera and shot everything in RAW format.  Even with some processing in Lightroom, the photos, while nice, don't capture how stunning the blue, greens and whites of the ocean water were that week.   I was quite taken with the small, grass thatch roofed boat that was just offshore.  I took almost 100 photos of that boat moving around its anchor while the sun continuously changes the colors of the water around it!

Christina and I sat ocean front all day, from sunrise to moon rise.  Yeah, it was that kind of trip...

I hope you like the photos.
